The Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education has implemented a compensation scheme for the first time, which has helped 342 students successfully pass their Class X public examinations. Of these, 275 students utilized the scheme alone, while 53 combined it with sports merit marks. Under this scheme, students can pass even if they fail in two regular subjects, provided they achieve at least 60% in two skill-based subjects and 51% in the other two. However, they must secure a minimum of 10% in the regular subjects they failed. The introduction of this scheme has led to the discontinuation of grace and condonation marks, although sports merit marks remain. For students who do not pass using the compensation scheme, the 'allowed to keep term' (ATKT) scheme continues, with 417 students placed under ATKT this year, allowing them to sit for supplementary exams. The Goa Board chairperson, Bhagirath Shetye, stated that 346 candidates from the fresh batch are in the ATKT category, enabling them to enroll in Class XI, contingent upon passing the SSC examination.
