The Advanced Neuroscience Centre (ANC) at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh, India, officially began operations on Monday after nine years of delays. On its first day, the centre registered 581 patients, comprising 181 new registrations and 400 follow-up cases. The ANC, which will be formally inaugurated by Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda on April 30, is a 300-bed facility constructed at a cost of ₹490 crore (approximately $59 million USD). It aims to reduce the patient load at the existing Nehru Hospital and other facilities by providing specialized neurological services. PGIMER Director Dr. Vivek Lal emphasized that the phased roll-out will help refine workflows and ensure efficient patient care. The neurology and neurosurgery outpatient departments (OPDs) have been relocated to the new centre, with efforts underway to improve patient flow and logistics. Signage and support systems have been established to assist visitors during this transition.
