On Thursday, the Maharashtra government approved the release of ₹51.68 crore to settle post-matric scholarship and free ship dues for 15,252 students from the 2018-19 academic year. This decision, made by the Other Backward Bahujan Welfare Department, aims to address discrepancies in the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system that arose during the initial implementation of the MahaDBT portal. A Government Resolution indicated that while ₹67.96 crore had been transferred to the Single Nodal Account, ₹52.05 crore remained pending due to mismatches and excess payments. The funds will be allocated to various categories, including ₹45.81 crore for OBC students, ₹5.32 crore for VJNT students, and smaller amounts for SBC pupils. The resolution mandates that the funds be routed through the MahaDBT portal to ensure transparency and timely transfers to students' bank accounts. The Director of Other Backward Bahujan Welfare in Pune has been designated to oversee the proper utilization of these funds.
