In a recent cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the Uttarakhand Cabinet approved a significant proposal allowing district-level education committees to determine the affiliation of minority institutions up to Class 8. This change addresses requests from over 400 madrasas currently providing education from Class 1 to Class 8. Previously, under the Uttarakhand Minority Education Act, all minority institutions from Class 1 to Class 12 were required to seek affiliation from the Board of School Education in Ramnagar. The amended Act, which will take effect from July 2023, allows primary and junior high schools to affiliate through district committees, while schools offering classes 9 to 12 must still affiliate with the Ramnagar board. Additionally, the Cabinet simplified the approval process for construction works related to the Haridwar Ardh Kumbh 2027, enabling the Mela Officer to approve projects up to ₹1 crore. The Garhwal Divisional Commissioner can now sanction projects worth up to ₹5 crore. Other decisions include amendments to the Uttarakhand State Legal Services Authority Rules, inclusion of acid attack victims for free legal services, and the introduction of the Uttarakhand Beekeeping Policy to promote beekeeping and self-employment in rural areas. Furthermore, the royalty on minerals has been raised from ₹7 to ₹8 per quintal, and the transport department has received approval to procure 250 new buses to enhance public transit.
