Khalilur Rahman, the foreign minister of Bangladesh, met with India's Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri in New Delhi to discuss increasing supplies of diesel and fertilizer amid a global supply squeeze. India is a significant energy supplier to Bangladesh, providing diesel through the India-Bangladesh Friendship pipeline, which has an annual capacity of 100,000 tonnes. In the previous month, 5,000 tonnes of diesel were supplied under an agreement. Rahman expressed gratitude for the recent diesel delivery and emphasized the need for enhanced supply volumes. Minister Puri indicated that India would consider the request favorably. The pipeline, inaugurated in 2022, serves as a crucial energy link, supplying petroleum products to seven districts in northern Bangladesh. Additionally, India is exploring the possibility of exporting high-sulphur fuel oil and furnace oil to Bangladesh, responding to the region's energy needs amid ongoing supply challenges.
