The case was initiated by S Vignesh Shishir, a Bharatiya Janata Party worker from Karnataka, who is challenging a January 28 order from the Special MP-MLA Court in Lucknow that dismissed his plea to register a First Information Report (FIR) against Gandhi. The court ruled that it lacked jurisdiction over citizenship matters. Shishir's complaint alleges violations of the Indian Penal Code, the Official Secrets Act, the Foreigners Act, and the Passport Act.
