Sunny Joseph, the Congress president in Kerala, is confident that the United Democratic Front (UDF) will secure victory in the upcoming assembly elections, aiming for over 100 seats. He believes this outcome will mirror the success of the UDF in the December local body elections. Voting for the 140-member assembly is set for April 9. Joseph downplayed the influence of the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) campaign, stating that despite their resources, they will not sway Kerala's voters. He also mentioned that if the UDF wins, he would be open to taking on a larger role, which he believes would benefit his constituency and the surrounding areas. The contest in Peravoor, where he is running against former Kerala health minister KK Shailaja, is particularly significant. Joseph noted that the political landscape in Kannur district is shifting, with former CPI(M) members running as UDF candidates, indicating potential changes in voter sentiment. He refuted CPI(M) claims of a secret understanding between Congress and BJP, asserting that Congress consistently opposes the BJP both in parliament and in public.
