The Noida authority in Uttar Pradesh, India, has announced a delay in the repair and resurfacing of city roads, originally scheduled for completion by the end of May, due to a shortage of charcoal, which is essential for road construction. SP Singh, general manager of the Noida authority, stated that the ongoing conflict in West Asia has completely halted the supply of charcoal, preventing contractors from starting their work. The authority has allocated ₹250 crore (approximately $30 million USD) for the project, which involves the construction of around 150 kilometers of roads. Officials had planned to complete the work before the rainy season to avoid disruptions caused by frequent rains. However, with contractors unable to obtain the necessary materials, the timeline for the project has been pushed back. Roads in circles 1 to 5, which have been identified as the most affected by wear and potholes, will be prioritized for resurfacing. The engineering department is prepared to remove damaged layers and lay new bituminous surfaces once material supplies are restored.
