G S Sharanya, a 36-year-old information technology professional from Kerala, was rescued on Sunday after being missing for four days during a trek in Kodagu district, Karnataka, India. The search operation intensified after Chief Minister Siddaramaiah directed additional personnel and drone surveillance. Sharanya was found around 5 pm near Tadiyandamol, the highest peak in the region, where she had been relying on water from a stream. Initially, she had planned a solo trek but joined a guided group due to safety concerns about wild elephants. After becoming separated from her group during the descent, she informed a friend and her homestay owner of her situation before her phone battery died. The search involved nine teams, including the Karnataka forest department, police, and local tribal communities, utilizing thermal drone cameras to locate her in the dense forest. Sharanya, who remained calm throughout her ordeal, described her experience of getting lost and surviving with limited supplies. Kerala's Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan also expressed concern over her disappearance and requested increased efforts for her rescue.
