In Ludhiana district, Punjab, many students in government schools are attending classes in casual attire as uniforms for the new academic session have not yet arrived. Educators report that this delay has become a yearly issue, with uniforms for the previous academic year arriving only recently, disrupting the start of the school year. Jagjit Singh Mann, district president of the Government Teachers Union, emphasized that such delays undermine the discipline intended by the uniform policy. Dharamjeet Singh Dhillon, president of the Lecturer Cadre Union, suggested that the education department needs to improve the supply chain by dispatching a fixed number of uniforms in advance and appointing a single authorized distributor to handle complaints. He also pointed out that the current budget of ₹600 (approximately $7.25 USD) for both summer and winter uniforms is inadequate. As a result, schools have implemented temporary measures, allowing students from private schools to attend classes in their previous uniforms while nursery students come in casual wear. Despite the widespread impact of this issue, there is little clarity from education authorities regarding the current session's uniform supply.
