Milap Punia, a professor at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in New Delhi, has been appointed as the new vice-chancellor (VC) of Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU) in Rohtak, Haryana, by Governor Prof Ashim Kumar Ghosh. Punia's appointment is effective from the date he assumes office and will last for three years or until he reaches the age of 68. This change comes at a time when MDU is dealing with the fallout from an investigation by the state vigilance and anti-corruption bureau into former VC Rajbir Singh, who is accused of irregularities in the procurement of 20,000 plants and misusing his authority during faculty appointments. In related changes, MDU registrar Krishan Kant has been appointed as the new registrar of Shri Krishna Ayush University in Kurukshetra, while Sandeep Bansal, a commerce professor at IGN College, will take over his previous role. The governor's actions aim to facilitate a fair inquiry into the previous administration's conduct.
