On Friday, the Madras High Court in Chennai dismissed a plea by Dr. S. Ramadoss, the founder of the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), to freeze the party's 'mango' election symbol. This legal battle stems from a dispute with his son, Anbumani Ramadoss, regarding the use of the party's name, flag, and symbol. Justice T. V. Thamilselvi rejected Dr. Ramadoss's application, which he filed after the announcement of the Assembly elections. Previously, on March 12, the same judge had issued an interim stay against a civil suit Dr. Ramadoss filed in Chennai, which sought to prevent his son from using the party's electoral symbol. The Supreme Court had directed Dr. Ramadoss to seek relief from the jurisdictional civil court, which also denied his request on March 26, stating that altering the symbol's allotment would disrupt the electoral process. The high court's latest ruling reinforces the legal barriers Dr. Ramadoss faces in his efforts to control the party's electoral representation.
