Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced on Saturday that the state government will involve cooperative societies in wheat procurement to ensure a smooth process during the current rabi marketing season, despite a strike by commission agents known as arhtiyas. The strike, initiated to demand the restoration of percentage-based commissions, threatens to disrupt procurement operations and impact farmers negatively. Mann clarified that the commission agents' demands fall under the jurisdiction of the Union government, and the state has no authority in this matter. He stated that meetings have been arranged between Punjab arhtiyas and central authorities to address their concerns. To encourage cooperation, the CM announced that arhtiyas who refrain from striking will receive preferential treatment in paddy allotment for the upcoming kharif season. Additionally, Mann unveiled a new land division scheme, set to be implemented across Punjab from April 13, aimed at resolving land disputes amicably. He also highlighted infrastructure improvements in Moga, including upgrades to over 47 km of roads and the introduction of robotic surgeries at the Advanced Cancer Institute in Bathinda.
