In an effort to enhance passenger safety and reduce accidents, the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) is set to implement a comprehensive surveillance system. This includes the installation of CCTV cameras on bus dashboards and inside vehicles, aimed at monitoring driver behavior and analyzing accident causes. PMPML chairman Mahesh Awhad stated that these measures are inspired by successful reforms from the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation. The upgraded control room will serve as a high-tech command center for real-time bus tracking and emergency response, significantly improving operational efficiency. PMPML's safety concerns stem from alarming statistics, with 385 accidents reported between April 2022 and June 2025, resulting in 87 fatalities. The board of directors will finalize the proposal in their upcoming meeting on April 24, marking a crucial step towards safer public transport in Pune.
