In Pune, Maharashtra, three police officers from the Wagholi police station have been suspended for allegedly extorting ₹10,000 (approximately $120 USD) from a 24-year-old IT professional. The officers, identified as head constable Kiran Abdagire and constables Ganesh Khade and Kiran Kamble, reportedly threatened the victim with a fabricated case of running a sex racket after responding to a noise complaint on April 2. Instead of following standard procedures, the officers allegedly detained the victim and coerced him into transferring money under duress. Following a complaint from the victim, an internal inquiry was launched, revealing prima facie evidence of misconduct. Police commissioner Amitesh Kumar criticized the officers' behavior as “undisciplined and irresponsible,” leading to the suspension orders issued by Deputy Commissioner of Police Somay Munde on April 7 under the Maharashtra Police Act, 1951.
