Nagpur University, located in Maharashtra, India, has revamped its major subject selection process in alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP). The new 3-2-1 model allows students to select three major subjects in their first year, two in their second, and finally specialize in one major in their third year. This reform aims to provide students with greater flexibility and the opportunity to make informed decisions regarding their academic and career paths. Previously, students were required to choose a single major subject for all three years, which often limited their postgraduate options and forced premature decisions. The proposal for this change was put forth by Rajesh Bhoyar, a senior member of the university's Senate. Despite the positive reception of the new structure, concerns have been raised regarding the lack of clear guidelines on curriculum modifications and evaluation patterns, which have caused uncertainty among faculty and delayed admission processes. The university plans to implement these changes in the upcoming academic session, while curriculum development is currently underway.
