In an effort to enhance the transparency of LPG distribution, the Delhi government has imposed a complete ban on the sale of LPG cylinders directly from godowns. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta emphasized that Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) have instructed distributors that such sales are illegal and will face strict penalties. The government is also working to expand the availability of 5kg LPG cylinders, which can now be purchased easily from gas agencies with just a valid ID and no address verification. This initiative aims to provide relief to migrant workers and students. To assist consumers, 11 dedicated help desks have been established to provide information about LPG distributors. Currently, the average delivery time for domestic LPG cylinders is 4.24 days, with a total of 114,679 bookings recorded and 131,335 cylinders delivered, indicating effective functioning of the distribution system. Additionally, a control room has been set up to combat illegal activities like hoarding and black marketing, with recent police raids targeting illegal practices. In response, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) criticized the BJP-led government for creating an LPG crisis, while Delhi Congress highlighted the ongoing illegal trade amidst supply shortages.
