The construction of Delhi's first double-decker flyover, spanning 1.4 km between Bhajanpura and Yamuna Vihar, has resumed after significant delays. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has issued new tenders to complete the project, which was initially announced in late 2019 but stalled for nearly two years due to the need for permissions from the state forest department for tree felling along the route. Anuj Dayal, DMRC's principal executive director, confirmed that the tenders for the construction of ramps and launching of spans have been floated, with an estimated contract value of ₹11.76 crore (approximately $1.4 million USD). The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2026. This flyover is crucial for alleviating traffic congestion and enhancing connectivity with the Metro network, particularly as the section above it has been operational since the inauguration of new metro corridors by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 8. The DMRC plans to construct two more double-decker viaducts as part of its Phase IV expansion, further improving urban transit in the region.
