In Chennai, primary-level teachers from government, aided, and corporation schools will participate in a three-day training program focused on activity-based learning and lesson planning before the new academic year begins on June 4. This initiative aims to familiarize educators with a revamped syllabus that will introduce new textbooks for classes I to III in the 2026-27 academic year. A. Pugalendhi, joint director of the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), stated that the printing of term-I books will commence soon, with ongoing processing of suggestions for other classes. The new curriculum incorporates themes such as first aid, self-identity, and self-care routines, promoting a positive outlook from an early age. The training will provide teachers with a preview of the changes and a checklist of effective classroom practices. The new textbooks will shift from traditional text-heavy formats to more engaging, activity-based content, building on previous revisions that included QR codes linked to simplified instructional videos. Chief education officers and district institutes of education and training are tasked with preparing training schedules, which will be organized after the upcoming elections.
