Maharashtra's Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has declared that 2027 will be observed as the bicentenary year of Mahatma Jyotirao Phule, a prominent social reformer. The celebrations will kick off with a tribute on April 11, 2026, and will span until April 10, 2027. The School Education and Sports Department has issued a circular detailing a comprehensive plan that includes educational and awareness programs across schools and government institutions. Schools are encouraged to incorporate activities that highlight Phule's contributions to social equality and women's education, including reading initiatives, lectures, and discussions. Additionally, cultural activities such as street plays and performances will engage students from Classes 1 to 12, who will also have the opportunity to participate in competitions and share their experiences online with the hashtag #Phule200. The initiative aims to foster a deeper understanding of Phule's legacy and promote social awareness among students.
