The Kolkata Police and Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) have confirmed a three-night construction window from May 17 to 19 to address the critical missing link at the congested Chingrighata intersection. This work is essential for the New Garia-Airport Metro corridor, part of the Orange Line project. If the construction proceeds as planned, officials anticipate that the full line extending to the Jai Hind (Airport) Metro station will be operational by April 2027. To reduce traffic disruptions, the work will be conducted during a five-hour window each night, from midnight to 5:00 am, coinciding with the start of school summer vacations around May 15. The Chingrighata intersection is known for its heavy congestion, making coordination between rail authorities and traffic police critical. Following this construction, three unfinished pillars will be connected, allowing the Metro line to link the Southern suburbs to the IT hub of Sector V. Currently, the line operates from Kavi Subhash (New Garia) to Beleghata (Hemanta Mukhopadhyay), but the connection to the tech hub remains incomplete at this bottleneck.
