An unmanned drone reportedly being tested by a private company crashed in an agricultural field in Saifai, Uttar Pradesh, on Saturday, leading to panic among locals who feared it was a stray missile. Former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav criticized the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government for not providing prior information about the drone trials, stating that citizens should have been alerted. He emphasized the potential risks of flying such drones in populated areas, arguing that if the drone had fallen on a nearby settlement, it could have resulted in loss of life and property. Yadav demanded an investigation into the incident and called for appropriate compensation for the farmer whose field was affected. He also used the opportunity to criticize the BJP's handling of local issues, sarcastically questioning their ability to operate an airstrip in Saifai, his birthplace, if they could not manage a simple drone test. The Etawah district police confirmed that the drone's parts were secured and that there were no injuries reported. Yadav further accused the BJP of using the ongoing US-Iran conflict to deflect attention from domestic problems, including fertilizer shortages affecting farmers.
