Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced during an election rally that the state government will provide two free LPG cylinders annually to residents, specifically during the festivals of Bihu and Durga Puja. This initiative aims to ease the burden on households amidst the ongoing global energy crisis. In a related development, five LPG distributors in Assam have been suspended due to identified irregularities in their distribution practices. The Chief Secretary emphasized that strict monitoring of LPG supplies is being conducted in collaboration with Oil Marketing Companies to ensure compliance with distribution norms. Despite these challenges, the government has assured consumers that adequate stocks of LPG are available, with domestic consumers receiving 100% allocation. Additionally, commercial LPG consumers will benefit from a 10% increase in their allocation, raising it to 70%. The government maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards distribution irregularities and will continue to monitor the situation closely to safeguard public interest.
