As election campaigning intensifies, residents of Ambattur constituency in Chennai are voicing their frustrations over neglected infrastructure. The United Welfare Federation of Ambattur, representing over ten residents welfare associations, has submitted a charter of demands to contesting candidates. Residents accuse elected officials of failing to consult them or include their associations in decision-making processes. S. Suresh, president of the federation, noted that the sitting Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) has not visited the area to address local concerns, and the local councillor has only made three visits in four years. Traffic congestion is a major issue, with travel times to nearby locations being excessively long due to encroachments on pavements and narrow roads. Additionally, residents highlighted the absence of a government hospital, higher secondary schools for boys, playgrounds, and basic infrastructure such as footpaths and bus shelters. Environmental issues were also raised, with neglected water bodies and a clogged sewer network leading to untreated sewage entering local lakes. The federation is urging candidates to prioritize these pressing needs.
