The Feed'em Freedom Foundation, a nonprofit based in Gresham, Oregon, dedicated to food distribution from local Black, Indigenous, and POC farmers, has been significantly impacted by the theft of essential farming equipment valued at nearly $30,000. The theft occurred last week while Executive Director Shantae Johnson and Operations Director Arthur Shavers were away. Upon returning, Shavers discovered that their tractor, disc plow, tiller, and forks were missing, leaving the organization unable to prepare for their upcoming food forest workshop. Johnson expressed the urgency of their situation, highlighting the importance of the tractor in supporting local farmers during the spring planting season. The foundation has started a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds for replacing the stolen equipment. Additionally, Johnson noted that theft has been a recurring issue at their sites, which currently lack security measures due to the absence of electricity. Gresham police have stated there is no current suspect information, although heavy equipment theft is a known issue in the area.
