On Tuesday, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) installed an Aerobin at the Printer Apartments Housing Society in Rohini, New Delhi, to encourage on-site composting of wet waste. The Aerobin, inaugurated by Delhi Mayor Pravesh Wahi, utilizes bio-culture technology to transform up to 10 kg of wet waste into compost within approximately 40 days without emitting foul odors. The compost generated can be effectively used for gardening and landscaping, demonstrating a sustainable approach to waste management. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to promote waste segregation at the source, which is essential for reducing the pressure on Delhi’s landfill sites. Furthermore, the installation of the Aerobin was part of an extensive sanitation drive in the Rohini zone, which included cleaning roads using jetting and mechanical sweeping machines. By adopting decentralized waste management systems like the Aerobin, the MCD aims to foster a culture of responsible waste disposal and environmental stewardship among residents.
