The Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) has revealed that it utilized only 43% of the environmental damage compensation (EDC) collected over the past decade, amounting to ₹68.07 crore out of ₹158.88 crore. This information came to light following a Right to Information (RTI) request by environmental activist Amit Gupta. The EDC is imposed on various entities for violating pollution norms. The highest collection was noted in the year 2025-26, with ₹36.53 crore collected but only ₹11.38 crore spent. In contrast, the highest expenditure occurred in 2024-25, where ₹35.93 crore was spent against a collection of ₹16.63 crore. Gupta emphasized the need for transparency in the use of these funds, especially given Delhi's severe pollution crisis. Activist Bhavreen Kandhari highlighted the ongoing issue of underutilization of pollution funds at both central and state levels, calling for accountability and effective measures to combat environmental degradation.
