The Delhi government has accelerated a real-time source apportionment study focusing on PM10, aimed at enhancing air pollution policymaking. The initiative, proposed by IIT-Delhi, seeks to provide continuous data on pollution sources over five years, enabling timely responses during peak pollution periods.
- 01The study will provide real-time data on PM10 pollution sources.
- 02It aims to improve evidence-based policymaking for air quality management.
- 03The project includes mobile monitoring units for tracking pollution hotspots.
- 04Continuous data will be available through a live dashboard and regular reports.
- 05The initiative was previously stalled under the former government.

The Delhi government is pushing for the rapid implementation of a real-time source apportionment study focused on PM10, which will aid in evidence-based policymaking regarding air pollution. This initiative, presented by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi during a high-level meeting led by Delhi's Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa, outlines a comprehensive five-year plan to generate continuous data on pollution sources. The study aims to enhance the government's ability to respond effectively during peak pollution periods by moving beyond episodic assessments. Sirsa emphasized that the data will help evaluate the effectiveness of various interventions under the Environment Action Plan, particularly concerning seasonal pollution trends. The project will also involve the reactivation of the Delhi Pollution Control Committee's (DPCC) advanced monitoring site, which will utilize mobile units to track pollution hotspots. Continuous data will be accessible through a live dashboard, supplemented by weekly updates and monthly analytical reports. Additionally, the study will update Delhi's emission inventory and assess the climate benefits of pollution control measures, with extensive sampling planned across key pollution hotspots.
