The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) is set to merge with the state government after negotiations between transport unions and the government of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy concluded successfully on the third day of a strike. Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka announced the formation of a committee to initiate the merger process, which aims to fulfill various employee demands, including pay revisions and job security. The strike, led by the TSRTC Joint Action Committee (JAC), had resulted in thousands of buses being taken off the roads, particularly affecting key hubs in Hyderabad, where police were deployed to maintain order. Despite the disruption, around 1,000 buses, including 450 electric buses, were temporarily outsourced to resume services. The agreement comes in the wake of a tragic incident involving an RTC driver who died by suicide, highlighting the urgency of addressing employee grievances. With this merger, Telangana joins other southern states like Kerala and Andhra Pradesh that have already integrated their road transport corporations with the government.
