Pinarayi Vijayan, the outgoing Chief Minister of Kerala, arrived in Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday after the Left Democratic Front (LDF) suffered a significant defeat in the Assembly elections. The LDF, led by the Communist Party of India (Marxist), secured only 35 seats out of 140, while the United Democratic Front (UDF) won 102 seats, according to the Election Commission. Vijayan traveled from Kannur to the airport in a private vehicle, accompanied by his wife, daughter, and several Left leaders, including V Sivankutty, V Joy, and A A Rahim. Notably absent was the usual extensive security detail, which included a large convoy and commando protection. Upon his arrival, Vijayan acknowledged the media with a smile and a brief wave before departing for his official residence, Cliff House, with only a police pilot jeep and escort.
