The Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) made remarkable electoral gains in Kerala, particularly in districts with substantial minority populations. In areas where Muslims and Christians make up over 30% of the population, the UDF achieved a vote share of 51.9% and 50.2% respectively, compared to 42.1% in the rest of the state. Notably, in the Muslim-majority districts of Kasaragod, Kozhikode, and Malappuram, the UDF won 31 out of 34 seats, with a complete sweep in Malappuram. The LDF's (Left Democratic Front) vote share decreased by an average of 7.7 percentage points in these constituencies. Similarly, in Christian-majority districts like Ernakulam and Kottayam, the UDF won 32 out of 33 seats, with the LDF's vote share declining by 8.1 points. This shift not only reflects changing voter preferences but also impacts the internal competition within the Kerala Congress factions, with the UDF-aligned faction emerging stronger amidst a backdrop of historical rivalry.
