The Tamil Nadu assembly elections resulted in a significant political shift as the Tamilaga Vettri Kazagham (TVK) secured 107 seats in its debut, just 11 seats shy of a majority in the 234-member Assembly. In contrast, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), led by outgoing Chief Minister MK Stalin, won 59 seats. Stalin faced a personal setback, losing in Kolathur to TVK's VS Babu by 8,795 votes. Despite the defeat, Stalin thanked the electorate, noting that the DMK alliance garnered over 1.54 crore votes, just a 3.52% difference from the winning party. As the DMK seeks to form a government, Stalin will meet with leaders from allied parties, including the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) and the Communist Party of India (CPI).
