Anker has announced its innovative chip, named 'Thus', which aims to bring AI capabilities to its small, wearable products, starting with a new model of headphones. Set to debut at the Anker Day event on May 21, Thus is touted as the first Compute-in-Memory (CIM) AI audio chip that utilizes neural networks. This technology mimics the human brain by integrating processing and storage in one location, allowing for faster read speeds compared to traditional NAND memory. The compact design of the NOR-based CIM system makes it ideal for devices with limited space, such as headphones. Anker highlights the challenges of implementing AI in headphones due to their small size and low power consumption, yet the potential benefits are significant. One of the key features announced is Clear Calls, which employs a large neural network, eight MEMS microphones, and two bone conduction sensors to enhance call clarity in noisy environments. If successful, the headphones will serve as a strong demonstration of Thus, paving the way for its integration into other mobile accessories and IoT devices.
