Ananta Satya Uday Bhaskar, a Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) from the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), was arrested outside a district court in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, for allegedly attempting to tamper with witnesses in the murder case of his driver, V Subrahmanyam. The incident dates back to 2022 when Bhaskar reportedly assaulted Subrahmanyam during a dispute over a debt of ₹20,000. Following the altercation, Subrahmanyam sustained a fatal head injury after falling onto an iron grill. Although Bhaskar attempted to take him to a hospital, the victim died due to his injuries. Authorities claim that Bhaskar later tried to misrepresent the incident as a road accident. In a recent development, police allege that Bhaskar attempted to influence key witnesses by offering them ₹1 lakh each and threatening them with death if they testified against him. The police registered a case regarding the witness intimidation incident, which reportedly occurred on April 20, 2023, in Siddartha Nagar, Kakinada. Bhaskar's arrest took place during a court hearing related to the ongoing murder case.
