The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has announced a significant change in its fee collection process by integrating the general trade fee, also known as the storage license fee, with the property tax system. This new approach eliminates the need for a separate application for a General Trade License (GTL). Property owners and occupiers will now pay the trade fee, fixed at 15% of the property tax, through the Property Tax Portal, simplifying the payment process. The receipt generated after this payment will act as a deemed general trade/storage license, valid for one financial year. Despite this simplification, the MCD emphasizes that trade operators must comply with all relevant laws, including those related to pollution control and fire safety. They will also remain responsible for the safety of life and property, and any necessary approvals from authorities must still be obtained by the trade operators themselves.
