The IndiaAI Mission has announced a significant leadership change, appointing Saurabh Vijay, the current CEO of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), as its new CEO. Alongside him, Sudeep Shrivastava, who serves as the Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), has been named the Chief Operating Officer (COO). This announcement was made via a post on X, where the IndiaAI Mission expressed optimism about advancing its objectives under the new leadership. These appointments come in the wake of the IndiaAI Summit held in February 2026, which garnered mixed feedback from stakeholders. The IndiaAI Mission, which was launched in March 2024 with a budget of ₹10,372 crore (approximately $1.25 billion USD), aims to develop a robust artificial intelligence ecosystem in India. Saurabh Vijay, a senior bureaucrat from the 1998 batch of the Indian Administrative Service, previously held a position in Maharashtra before leading UIDAI. The mission is expected to continue its push towards enhancing India's AI capabilities under the new leadership team.
