A recent study by Randstad India highlights a significant shift in workplace expectations among Gen Z employees, who now prioritize flexibility over traditional office perks like free snacks and gaming rooms. The survey, which included 750 Indian professionals, found that 25% of respondents value flexible working hours, while 22% prioritize work-life balance. This generation, which currently makes up nearly 25% of India's workforce and is expected to rise to 47% by 2035, is increasingly willing to leave employers that do not meet these expectations. According to Viswanath PS, CEO of Randstad India, flexibility is now a prerequisite rather than a perk. Furthermore, 38% of Gen Z workers anticipate shorter tenures with companies, indicating that conventional retention strategies may be ineffective. Many are also embracing diversified careers, with 43% preferring to balance full-time jobs with side businesses. As organizations adapt to these changing demands, they must focus on creating inclusive, purpose-driven workplaces that offer continuous learning and career mobility. The findings resonate with global trends, as similar priorities are reflected in Deloitte’s 2025 Gen Z and Millennial Survey, emphasizing the need for businesses to redesign work around flexibility and growth.
