Two men, Vanlalrinchhana (33) and Raymond Vatha Chozah (34), from Mizoram were arrested by police in Cachar district, Assam, for allegedly collecting facial biometric data from local youths without authorization. They organized camps at a marriage hall in Silchar, where they offered approximately ₹200 (about $2.40 USD) to participants for their biometric information, claiming to be working for an American multinational company. Police reported that they collected data from more than 200 individuals, primarily unemployed youths, but could not provide valid reasons for their actions. The suspects face charges of cheating and violations under the Information Technology Act, 2000. They were remanded to police custody for further investigation, which includes analyzing the purpose of the data collection.
