Harley-Davidson is recalling nearly 17,000 motorcycles from the 2025 and 2026 model years due to a potential brake failure issue that could increase the risk of crashes. The recall includes models such as the Harley-Davidson FXLRS, FXLRST, FXBB, and FLHC, produced between December 5, 2024, and March 16, 2026. The issue was first identified in March when a claim regarding inoperable brakes on a 2025 FXLRST model was reported to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Further investigation revealed that the affected models lacked adequate clearance between the rear brake line and the body control module (BCM). This could result in contact over time, potentially causing a hole in the brake line and leading to brake fluid loss, which compromises rear braking performance. Fortunately, no accidents or injuries have been reported. Harley-Davidson plans to notify dealers by Monday, and owners will receive letters by May 25, 2026. Repairs will involve replacing the BCM caddy and inspecting the rear brake line for damage, with necessary replacements made at no cost to the owners.
