Harley-Davidson is recalling nearly 17,000 Softail motorcycles in the United States due to a serious rear brake issue that poses a potential crash risk. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced the recall on April 13, highlighting that the rear brake line may contact the Body Control Module (BCM), leading to a brake fluid leak and loss of rear brakes. The recall specifically affects certain models built between 2025 and 2026, including the FLHC, FXBB, FXLRS, and FXLRST models, with a total of 17,994 units impacted. The issue was first reported in March when a customer experienced 'inoperable brakes' on a 2025 FXLRST model. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported. Harley-Davidson plans to notify dealers between April 20 and April 27, with owner letters scheduled for delivery between May 18 and May 25. Owners can verify if their motorcycle is affected by entering their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the NHTSA website.
