The National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially cancelled the NEET UG 2026 examination, which was conducted on May 3, following allegations of irregularities, including a suspected paper leak. The decision was made with the approval of the Government of India after an investigation revealed potential malpractice. NTA stated that the integrity of the examination process had been compromised, necessitating a re-examination. Students will not have to re-register, and existing registrations will remain valid. Fees already paid will be refunded, and new admit cards will be issued once the fresh exam dates are announced. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has been tasked with a comprehensive inquiry into the matter, and NTA has committed to cooperating fully with the investigation. The agency acknowledged the emotional toll this cancellation may have on students but emphasized that allowing a compromised examination to proceed would have caused greater harm to public trust in the system.
