In a significant move to enhance healthcare services, the Maharashtra state government has ordered the redeployment of 903 specialist medical officers currently serving in altered cadres. This decision, effective June 30, was announced by the public health department on May 11. The government aims to address the weakening of specialist healthcare services in public hospitals that resulted from previous cadre changes. The health secretary, Dr. Nipun Vinayak, emphasized the necessity of ensuring that specialist doctors are posted according to approved staffing structures to improve service delivery. Dr. Kailas Baviskar, deputy director of health services, stated that the goal is to ensure specialists are available where needed and that sanctioned posts are filled appropriately. Fresh posting orders will be issued based on the doctors' original qualifications and the sanctioned specialist positions.
