The Indian Biogas Association (IBA) has called for a 10% mandatory blending of fermented organic manure with chemical fertilizers by 2030, which could save India approximately $2 billion in annual imports. This proposal was presented in a white paper titled 'FOM Feeds Soil, Soil Feeds Sustainability,' released during the BBB Summit 2026. The IBA emphasizes that India's Soil Organic Carbon (SOC) levels are critically low, currently at about 0.4%, which negatively affects soil fertility and crop productivity. To address this, the IBA recommends a phased blending strategy: 1% by 2026-27, 3% by 2027-28, 5% by 2028-29, and 10% by 2029-30. The initiative aims to integrate fermented organic manure into existing government schemes and promote a circular ecosystem linking renewable energy with agriculture. The IBA also highlights the importance of institutional support for research and development, ensuring that farmers adopt these practices effectively. A structured blending mandate is seen as essential for transforming India's agricultural landscape and achieving long-term soil regeneration.
