The Indian Biogas Association (IBA) has unveiled a white paper titled *FOM Feeds Soil, Soil Feeds Sustainability*, advocating for a 10% blending target of Fermented Organic Manure (FOM) with chemical fertilizers by 2030. Released by MNRE Secretary Santosh Kumar Sarangi during the BBB Summit 2026, the proposal aims to address India's declining soil health, where Soil Organic Carbon (SOC) levels are critically low at approximately 0.4%. The IBA's roadmap outlines a phased implementation strategy, starting with a 1% blending obligation in 2026-27, increasing to 10% by 2029-30. This initiative is expected to stabilize market demand for fertilizers and reduce dependency on chemical imports, potentially saving the Indian government around $2 billion annually. The proposed SuBiCulP (Sustainable Biogas-Organic Fertilizer Based Cultivation Programme) aims to create a circular ecosystem linking renewable energy with agriculture, while also integrating FOM into existing government schemes. Enhanced research and development, along with multilingual extension services, will support farmer adoption of FOM, positioning it as a mainstream agricultural input for long-term soil regeneration and climate resilience.
