The 2026 Sports Data Challenge, held last week, celebrated the creativity and technical prowess of student teams who developed data visualizations based on historical NFL draft data. The event, organized in collaboration with the Texas A&M Collaborative for Sport Data Science (CSDS), awarded a total of $9,000 in prizes. In the graduate division, the first place went to the KNSM Krushers team, which included Ben Doyle and John Tebbetts from the Department of Kinesiology and Sport Management, earning $2,000. The second place was claimed by the Losers team, consisting of Abdullah Elsheikh and Mohammad Elkady from the Department of Chemical Engineering, who also received the award for “Best Presentation Design” with an additional $500. The undergraduate division saw the Overfitters team, featuring Tejas Tadikonda and Vedh Jaishankar from the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering, take home the first prize of $2,000. The event not only recognized the winners but also showcased the dedication of all participating students, with a special thanks to the organizers and judges for their support.
