The Election Commission of India (ECI) has ordered re-elections at 15 polling stations in the Magrahat Paschim and Diamond Harbour assembly constituencies located in South 24 Parganas district, West Bengal. This decision follows complaints of vote tampering during the second phase of elections held on April 29. Allegations included the use of black tape and other substances to obscure buttons on electronic voting machines (EVMs), particularly affecting the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). A total of 23 cases of alleged tampering have been confirmed, with 20 of these from the Falta area. The ECI declared the original polling void under Section 58(2) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, and fresh elections are set for May 2. Voter turnout in West Bengal during the elections reached 92.47%, marking the highest participation since independence.
