The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced re-elections at 15 polling stations across two assembly constituencies in South 24 Parganas, West Bengal — Magrahat Paschim and Diamond Harbour. This decision follows complaints of vote tampering during the second phase of elections on April 29. Allegations included the use of black tape, adhesive substances, ink, and perfume on the buttons of electronic voting machines (EVMs) in several booths. The ECI confirmed that 23 cases of tampering were prima facie validated, with 20 cases originating from the Falta constituency. The re-elections will take place at 11 polling stations in 142-Magrahat Paschim AC and 4 polling stations in 143-Diamond Harbour AC. The ECI is currently preparing to ensure that the polling process is conducted smoothly in these areas.
