Amit Dewan, the Finance Director of Haryana Power Generation Corporation Limited (HPGCL), was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with an alleged ₹83 crore scam involving the Chandigarh Renewable Energy and Science and Technology Promotion Society (CREST). This arrest follows his earlier detention related to a ₹590 crore bank fraud case. Dewan was presented before a special CBI court in Chandigarh after being transferred from Ambala jail, where he is now under a four-day custodial remand for further questioning. The CBI has also detained businessman Vikram Wadhwa, identified as a key figure in both the CREST and Chandigarh Smart City scams, with ₹75 lakh in transactions linked to CREST funds traced to his account. Allegations against Dewan include close ties with former IDFC Bank manager Ribhav Rishi, who reportedly facilitated large cash payments for personal expenses. Investigations are focusing on the diversion of government funds through shell companies and suspicious transactions exceeding ₹50 crore during Dewan's tenure. The case, initially uncovered by Chandigarh Police, revealed irregularities in both CREST and Chandigarh Smart City Limited, leading to a CBI probe initiated by the Chandigarh Administration.
