Only 7% of respondents expressed strong support for having a data center nearby, with many citing job opportunities and economic benefits as their rationale. Notably, 55% of supporters mentioned job creation as a key reason for their stance. Some jurisdictions, like Monterey Park in California, have enacted bans on new data centers, while New York state is considering a three-year moratorium. In contrast, Maine's governor recently vetoed a bill that would have temporarily halted the construction of large data centers. As AI companies rapidly expand their infrastructure, public sentiment remains largely against having these facilities close to residential areas.
