The Union Cabinet of India has implemented a cap on Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) prices, setting them at ₹75.60 per litre for domestic operations. This decision comes as part of a broader strategy to manage rising fuel costs driven by the ongoing crisis in West Asia. To support this initiative, the government has established a ₹10,000 crore price stabilization fund aimed at assisting Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) in subsidizing ATF prices. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav announced that this fund will be disbursed as interest-free advances to OMCs, enabling them to provide stable pricing for airlines during periods of significant fuel price volatility. The support will be available to all Scheduled Indian airlines for up to three years, contingent upon annual reviews and recovery of the advance amount. The recent surge in international ATF prices, which have increased nearly 2.5 times over the past year, has put considerable financial pressure on airlines, as ATF constitutes a substantial portion of their operating costs.
